Microbiologist – Upstream Fermentation and Biopharmaceuticals
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated microbiologist to join our team specializing in upstream fermentation processes and biopharmaceutical production. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting microbial fermentation experiments, optimizing culture conditions, and contributing to the development of novel biopharmaceutical products. This role requires expertise in microbiology, fermentation techniques, and a strong understanding of bioprocess engineering principles.
Responsibilities
Microbial Culture Maintenance: Maintain and propagate microbial cultures for upstream fermentation processes.
Monitor culture viability, purity, and stability over time.
Upstream Fermentation Operations: Plan and execute fermentation experiments according to project timelines and objectives.
Set up and operate bioreactors, fermenters, and associated equipment for microbial cultivation.
Monitor and control fermentation parameters such as temperature, pH, agitation, and aeration to optimize cell growth and product formation.
Process Optimization: Design and conduct experiments to optimize fermentation conditions for enhanced productivity and product quality.
Implement statistical methods and data analysis techniques to identify key process parameters and optimize process yields.
Biopharmaceutical Production: Contribute to the development and scale-up of biopharmaceutical production processes.
Participate in technology transfer activities to ensure successful transfer of processes from lab-scale to pilot and manufacturing-scale.
Quality Control and Assurance: Perform microbial analysis and characterization to assess culture purity and product integrity.
Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and quality standards in all aspects of microbial culture and fermentation operations.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures, results, and observations.
Prepare technical reports, summaries, and presentations to communicate findings to internal teams and stakeholders.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including research, development, process engineering, and quality assurance.
Communicate effectively with team members and project stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and objectives.
Qualifications
- Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related field.
- Hands-on experience with microbial fermentation techniques, bioreactor operation, and upstream bioprocess development.
- Strong understanding of microbiological principles, microbial physiology, and metabolism.
- Familiarity with biopharmaceutical production processes and cGMP regulations is preferred.
- Proficiency in data analysis software, statistical tools, and laboratory instrumentation.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in experimental design and execution.
